1. How do I book a class?


Our preferred method is to use the booking site: https://bookwhen.com/alleman via the book online button on our schedule page or the book now button from our Facebook page. You can also call us to reserve a spot or email us at [email protected]. If you prefer, you can also prepay through our online store.

2. How much does the course cost?

We normally charge $120 per person. One on one instruction may cost more. You can pay with cash, check, or credit card on the day of our class for scheduled classes. You can also prepay through our online store.

3. What do you provide?

We provide a training certificate for proof that you've taken a Louisiana authorized training course, a copy of your driver's license, access to a fingerprint technician, and your targets. We do not provide lunch, ammunition, or firearms.

4. What do I need to bring?

If possible, please bring the following: a handgun, at least 36 rounds of ammunition, your driver's license, hearing protection and eye protection. If you are unable to bring any of the recommended items, please contact us so that we can try to accommodate you. In some cases firearms, ammunition, hearing protection, and eye protection can be rented from the facility where we are teaching. In other cases we may be able to provide these things for a small fee if you make arrangements ahead of time.

5. Do I need to bring the gun I intend to carry?

No, you can bring any handgun you like to take the course. You can borrow a handgun from a friend, rent one, or bring any of your own handguns to take the course.

6. What if I don't have a gun, hearing protection, or eye protection?


In some cases, you will be able to rent these items from the facility where we teach. In other cases, you will have to contact us so that we can accommodate your needs.

7. What is the total cost for getting a Louisiana Concealed Handgun Permit?

Our course is typically $120. Fingerprints normally cost $20. If you've lived outside Louisiana in the last 15 years, you must provide a $50 background check fee to the state. The permit itself costs $125 for a 5 year permit unless you are a military veteran (free) or over the age of 65 (half price). A lifetime permit is typically $500 unless you are a veteran (free)or over the age of 65 (half price).

8. How long is the permit good for?

A Louisiana CHP is good for 5 years unless you get a lifetime permit. A lifetime permit is free for veterans, $250 for active duty military and those over 65 years old, or $500 for everyone else.

9. How long is the course good for?

You have one (1) year from the date of course completion to submit your concealed handgun permit application.

10. How do I apply for a permit?

There are two ways to apply for a concealed handgun permit. The preferred method is to apply online using the following website: https://chp-web.dps.louisiana.gov/ via the State Police website . This method is faster, cheaper
( no notary required ), and easier ( no certified check or money order ). Alternatively, you can download the paper application from the State Police Website, have it notarized for a nominal fee, and mail in your application and documentation along with a certified check or money order. This method will take longer, will cost approximately $20 more, and you have to pay up front.

11. Do I need to be an experienced shooter to take this course?

No, our course is designed for both new shooters and experienced shooters.

12. What can I carry?

You can carry a revolver or semiautomatic pistol of any type. In short, any firearm that meets the legal definition of a handgun. The permit does not specify how many handguns you can carry, so you can carry a single handgun, or a primary and backup handgun, or as many as you can conceal.

13. How long is the course?

The state of Louisiana mandates a minimum 9 hour course for concealed handgun permits. We typically start at 9am and end between 5pm and 6pm. Sometimes things move faster, but expect to be there until 5pm.

14. Do I need a concealed handgun permit to keep a handgun in my vehicle?

No. Under most circumstances, carrying a handgun in a motor vehicle is legal in Louisiana. We suggest that you refer to Louisiana Revised Statutes (L.R.S.) Title 14 Sections 95; 95.1; 95.2; 95.6; 95.7; 95.8. 15. Is there a test?


No, there is no written test. To complete the course successfully, you must demonstrate that you can safely shoot your handgun and you must fire a minimum of twelve (12) rounds with a reload at distances of 6, 10, and 15 feet. You must be able to put twelve (12) rounds into the black of a B-27 lifesize silhouette target at each distance.

16. When and how should I pay for the course?

We accept payment on the day of the course, or you can prepay if you wish. We accept cash, checks, and credit cards.
